Winnipeg’s newest food festival, mmmFestival, runs Feb 8 to 23 and celebrates the food scene in Winnipeg’s French Quarter, including St. Boniface, Norwood Grove and Provencher Boulevard. Throughout the month, area restaurants are serving specials celebrating Winnipeg’s connection to our Métis and French roots. This new party coincides with Festival du Voyageur, Winnipeg’s annual winter celebration. This year Festival du Voyageur runs Feb. 14 to 28.

In a recent visit with Shawn and Connie Brandson, owners of the Fort Gibraltar Dining Corporation and Promenade Café and Wine, PCG got an #mmmfestival preview.

During #mmmfestival, Promenade will serve bison turnovers with fried leeks (see above) and smoked salmon with woven vegetables. Both dishes are fantastic.

During the festival, diners are encouraged to Tweet their favourite #mmmfestival eats. ‘Voyageur’s Choice’ will be awarded to the restaurant with the most mentions at the end.

So far, some of the participating eateries include: Café Postal, Cocobeans Bakeshop, Finales Coffee House, Chocolatier Constance Popp, Le Garage Café, Norwood Hotel's Jolly Friar, Pasquales Italian Restaurant, Promenade Cafe and Wine and Purple Hibiscus Restaurant.
