Ever wanted to sample Kentucky fried frogs legs?

Have a hankering for game hen?

How about octopus carpaccio?

Now’s your chance to scratch those fantastic foods off your bucket list.

From February 2 to 12, 34 participating Winnipeg restaurants will serve special three-course meals for $28 or $36 per person.

The annual event is the work of Ciao, a local food and restaurant magazine published bi-monthly.

Most of the special menus include an appetizer, entrée and dessert course and showcase the creative talents of some of the city’s top chefs. Participating restaurants run the gamut from mom and pop Italian ristorantes to postage-sized ethnic eateries to larger chain restaurants.

Some of this year’s highlights include: a pasta-tasting menu by Brooklynn’s Bistro; classic beef bourguignon by Promenade Café and Wine in the city’s French Quarter; traditional Argentinian picanha steak at Simon’s Cuisine; and braised veal shank on herbed spaetzle at Amici at Niakwa.

Carnaval, one of the city’s newest restaurants, is also participating in the two-week long event. The Brazilian churrascuria is located at Bannatyne and Waterfront in the city’s historic Exchange District.

Ciao, which has been publishing for more than 15 years, is also behind several other restaurant events throughout the year. In July 2012, the magazine launched Eat Winnipeg, a month-long lunch event at participating Winnipeg restaurants. The publication is also behind Taste the World, an annual, August-long celebration of Winnipeg’s ethnic cuisine.

The events are a great opportunity for both locals and visitors to sample some of Winnipeg’s finest cuisine.
